Where Screen Studio is the better choice
Screen Studio is genuinely excellent at the thing PreviewKit doesn’t do at all: recording the screen. It automatically zooms in on cursor activity, smooths and resizes the cursor, and records webcam, microphone, and system audio together.
It can record an iPhone or iPad directly over USB, generate an on-device transcript for subtitles, and export in up to 4K 60fps or as a GIF.
If the raw recording itself needs to look polished -- for a tutorial, course, or team update -- Screen Studio is built specifically for that job, and PreviewKit isn’t a substitute for it.
Where PreviewKit is the better choice
PreviewKit runs in the browser, so there’s no macOS requirement.
It exports at the exact dimensions specific marketplaces require, which isn’t what Screen Studio’s export presets are built for.
It stages footage inside a 3D device mockup scene -- a MacBook on stone, an iMac on a desk -- which is a different kind of output than a Screen Studio export.
